Righteousness, The Judgment to Come and Self-Control Part 2
How do we come to this place where the Lord, and only He can cause it to happen, even though we have part of our will involved; where He will bring us to the place where He wants us to be walking in righteousness and self-control, fearing the judgment of God for sin. God has told us that He will make up the years that the enemy hath stolen from us. Joel 2:25 "And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you."
Proverbs 25:28 "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls." We are that city sit on a hill that cannot be hid. This tells us what allows the enemy to get to us, to attack us freely. The Church is a type of city, but so are we. It's the presence of God that keeps the enemy away from us, it's His Anointing that breaks the yoke of the enemy. If you are one with no self-control over your own spirit, you are like that city with no walls. If your a new creature in Christ, you have been given authority over your spirit. 1Corinthians 14:32 "And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets." It comes with salvation. We already saw in Ezekiel how the enemy thinks. Ezekiel 38:11-12 "And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land." This is how we have been as a religious people. Religion voids all the promises and ordinances of God's commandments. God isn't looking for a religious people, but a faithful people. Everything you love other than Jesus, more than Jesus is idolatry. For the most part, God's people have loved rules and steps and formulas more than Jesus. How to do this and how to get that from God. How to get the baptism of the H.S.; how to get your prayers answered, etc. Men love to reduce God to steps, three easy steps to prosperity, seven steps to healing, etc. The church has loved short cuts, and methods, and religious formulas, rather than coming to living by faith and trusting in God out of a pure heart. We have wanted, if you will just do this or that, say this or that, then God will give you this and that. Let's look at those who truly love Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:14 "For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead." Constrains = controls us. We are talking about self-control. Jesus told the church of Ephesus that had left their first love. Their time and affections were first given to other loves. When He is your first love, you will love to be in His Presence, and love fellowship with Him. (v.15) "And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again." This talks about love, self-control, and living to please Jesus.
Paul speaks of a life of self discipline. 1 Corinthians 9:24 "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain." After making a couple statements that we obviously know, then he makes a statement, and more, a command; "run that ye may obtain." What? The crown! Jesus told us, only the overcomer inherits all things (Revelation 21:7). He that endureth to the end shall be saved (Matthew 10:22). 1 Corinthians 9:25a "And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things." "Temperate in all things." That's self-control. They got their eye on the prize. Paul compares how men will waste all their time and energy to that which is not eternal, but so very temporal and passing. Satan gets you chasing trinkets and tokens in this world, when eternity is at the door. Jesus meant, "be ye holy as I am holy." He meant "only the pure in heart shall see God." The Holy Ghost writing through James told us a double-minded man receives nothing from the Lord. We can't be half-hearted in our faith and service to the Lord. Blessed is that steward that He shall find so doing when He comes (Matthew 24:46). It takes self-control to keep your eyes on the prize, eternal life. It takes self-control to walk in and practice holiness, righteousness, godliness, sanctification, separation and obedience. Do you practice temperance, self-control in all things? It isn't a formula, a game, a lottery; it's the narrow way we are all required to walk. Not lip service or saying certain magic words, but in living the life and dying to self and this world, daily. 1 Corinthians 9:25b "Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible." They - we. Paul tells us that he isn't really talking about athletes, but "they" as those that know nothing about God and His ways. We are after an eternal unperishable reward, not an earthly one. (v.26) "I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:" I follow the rules of obtaining eternal life. I run without aim. Some just go to church, and fill a notebook, but there is not reality of becoming and doing the Word. He says, I don't box at the air, I know whom I am fighting, and how to make contact with my opponent, and hit him. I know how to win the fight. (v.27) "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." Castaway - that's one who has become a reprobate. After these statements, parables, and examples, Paul goes back to speaking of a people who were out of self-control. Those who are not continually exercised by a strong Word of God, will loose self-control. The flesh hates self-control, it wants comfort and ease.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." They say, "I don't want to hear a negative message, tell me something smooth." The so called negative messages of the Bible are nothing more than God's mercy and compassion to try and save us. Our lives need to be based upon the foundation of the prophets, meaning what they have written to us. Ephesians 2:20 "And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone." Yet many today laugh at the prophets of old, they not only don't read the prophets, they criticize them as angry men full of judgment against everyone. But there has always only been one foundation, which includes the prophets. Ephesians 2:21-22 "In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit." If your life is only built upon part of the Word, then you don't have a proper foundation, and proper self-control. 1 Corinthians 10:1-3 "Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat." What is the spiritual food they ate? The Word. Yet afterward, they still had no self-control. (v.4) "And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ." It's always been Jesus leading and providing for His People. Now the tragedy of God's people. (v.5) "But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness." How many? Of how, harlots and idolaters? Most. Matthew 7:14, 21-23 "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it . . . Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." They didn't practice self-control, but continued to walk in sin. Say; "I don't have to sin. I have been given power over sin. God has commanded me to reckon myself dead to sin and alive to Jesus. He has told me that sin shall not have dominion over me." Do you believe it. That you are able to not sin. To walk free of sin. That Jesus came to destroy the power of sin in your life. 1 John 3:8-9 "He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." You will not practice and continue in sin, because of the Word of God abiding in you. That's what David said in Psalm 119:11. "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." It literally says you are able to "practice not sin" because of the Word of God that abideth in you. Are you born of God, by His Word. Yet this verse seems foreign. Some preachers explain it away and leave their people comfortable in their sin, but it says we will not continue in sin, because we are able not to sin. Religion has conquered the people of God. 1 Corinthians 10:6 "Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted." This is why we need the Old Testament. Yet we have so many people with lust problems in the church, who claim to be Christians. (v.7) "Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." The didn't rise from eating the Word of God to keep and do it, to practice it, but to play with their lusts. (v.8) "Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand." Who were these people? Heathen, or the children of Israel that God had saved and delivered from Egypt. (v.9) "Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents." What if we do what they did? Will be not also be destroyed as they were? (v.10-11) "Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come." Is the end of the age upon us? As you look in the mirror or the Word, where are you walking before God? Is there a reality of relationship with Him, or are you just part of another religious crowd. To sum it all up: (v.12) "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." "Standeth"; is secure and all right. Thank God for (v.13-14). "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." Idolatry is loving something else more than God. Something else being more important in your life than God. Why do men jump on a bandwagon of religion? Because it gives their flesh comfort and makes then feel secure, while in their sin. 1 John 5:21 "Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen." Is this beginning to make sense? It's not in religion or anything religious, but only in Jesus.
Matthew 24:12 "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." The love of most who are God's people will grow cold. Then what will they love, if their love for God has grown cold. 2 Timothy 3: tells us what men will fall in love with, rather than God. (v.1-3) "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good," Incontinent is without self-control. Surely it's talking about the slimy sinners of the world who don't know God? (v.4-5) "Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." They have a form of godliness. Put they don't walk in the love of God and in self-control. Without self-control all the other fruits of the spirit are made void in your life. What do you do with such people? Turn away from them, avoid them like the plague lest they corrupt you. Where there is no self-control, there is no love of God, but only religion and a love of self. Lack of self-control renders us useless to the kingdom of God.
2 Peter reveals that the narrow way has to be administered to us. We can't attain to it on our own. 2 Peter 1:1 "Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:" What kind of faith is it? Like precious faith, that comes through the righteousness of God. (v.2) "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord," Grace!... Peace (Jesus is our peace). (v.3-4) "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust." Another word for partaker is partner. Can you see yourself as a partner of God's divine nature. To have His nature and character. There is only two forces in the world: Love and Lust. Lusts set you free to be idolatrous as you want, Love will set you free from all lust and idolatry, for the love of God will control you. When your out of control, that tells you how much love you really have for God. Now, the key or steps to the fruit of self-control. (v.5) "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;" Notice, this is your part. God does His part, after you do your part. 1 Peter 4:1 "Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin." 1 Peter 5:10 "But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you." God will establish you as a partner of His divine nature. Does that sound foreign to you, that you are a joint heir with Christ, seated with Him in heavenly places, far above all the things and lusts of this world. Are you joined with Him, seated with Him, ruling and reigning in life with Him? Or do you see yourself this way: "Oh God, I'm so helpless, I can't get control of my lust and anger. I can't stop sinning." You have the wrong image. Your seeing yourself as a partner, joined to the nature and character of Lucifer, rather than seeing yourself in Christ, free from all the power and dominion of sin and sin habits in your life. Peter is teaching us about self- control and how to begin to walk this path. Remember, we are talking about judgment to come, the righteousness which is by faith in Jesus, and self-control is the key that shows us how to walk holy and upright before God. 2 Peter 1:5 "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge." Faith - your faith in the finished works of Calvary. Virtue - or moral excellence. (v.6) "And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness." Temperance - self-control, and in your self-control; patience or perseverance, to continue in it. (v.7-8) "And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." Suppose these qualities are not in you are you are decreasing? We just read about some qualities, attitudes, attributes, virtues of God. If they are not abounding in you, then you are useless to the things of God. Unfruitful. You have the wrong kind of fruit. A good tree can't produce bad fruit or a bad tree, good fruit. (v.9) "But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins." These are reprobates, shipwrecked regarding the faith. They are blind. Jesus said if the blind lead the blind they will both fall into the pit - hell. Furthermore, if these qualities are not in you, it says that you have forgotten you were purged from your sins. If you have forgotten this, then you are wallowing in sin, in self-pity, or in guilt and condemnation.
***Hebrews 6:4-6 "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." This is saying, as long as you practice sin, knowing the Word, you are crucifying and putting to death the Son of God. How can you put Jesus to death? Is He not living, abiding in you by His Spirit? You are killing the life of God that in within you by your practice of sin. You can't renew repentance while you are practicing sin. You must first cease from your practice of sin. Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins." While we are willfully sinning, you make void His blood by your own will. So what do you do? You stop sinning and go back to the blood. If you go to hell, it's because you choose sin instead of the Cross because God says we don't have to continue in sin, if we will run to the Cross for help.
2 Peter 1:10 "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall." Election - His choosing you. As long as you practice these things, as long as you practice self-control you will never fall into sin. (v.11) "For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." This is the only way that God will supply unto you an entrance into His Kingdom. If you walk in self-control. Yet most don't want to practice self-control, because that is work and the flesh hates it.
Matthew 23:25 "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess." Can you change your own life? Then how do you explain these words? You clean the outside; but you forget what's inside your heart. Excess from the Greek is the inability to control yourself, the lack of self-restraint, of self-control. Their real love is self indulgence, no control over their own spirit. This is what they are "full" of; and if you are already filled then their is nothing God can do for you. God only fills those who are empty, who are hungry and thirsty for righteousness. Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."
We are sanctified through self-restraint. Proverbs 12:1 Instruction - from the Hebrew, is also discipline, correction, and restrain or self-control. Proverbs 13:18 "Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured." Instruction - again it's the same word, it's discipline, restrain. Poverty, spiritual nakedness. Revelation 3:17-18 "Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see."
Hebrews 12:8 "But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." Chastisement is discipline. If you have no discipline in your life, your an illegitimate son. The true sons are putting to death the deeds of the flesh. Romans 8:13-14 "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." If there is no discipline in your life, then your being led by the lusts of your flesh, and of this world. Sons of God are not indulging in the flesh. John 8:42-44 "Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
1 Timothy 4:7 "But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness." Exercise or discipline yourself unto godliness. (v.8) "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come." Then why are so many out of control? Proverbs 23:12 "Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge." This is our responsibility. Instruction is discipline. Words of knowledge is controlling your thought life and casting down imagination. Colossians 2:5 "For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ." Your order, or self-control. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is bringing us discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." Sound Mind. That's a mind with self-control. Any mind without self-control is not a sound mind, but a depraved mind, that is controlled by Satan. A sound mind is the mind of Christ. Proverbs 15:32 "He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding." Instruction is discipline. If you despise discipline, you despise your own soul. Proverbs 16:32 "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city." The one who rules his spirit has self-control. Who captures the city, Satan. You become stronger than the Devil when you begin to rule your spirit by self-control. Does Satan come against the unwalled city? Does this scripture say that the one who rules his spirit is mightier than the one who taketh a city? That's how we are stronger than the devil. That's where you come to Acts 5:32 "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." and God gives you the Holy Spirit because you are walking in obedience. You can't walk in obedience without self-control. It takes self-control to cast down all imaginations and bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ according to 2 Corinthians 10:5. "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" That will bring you to Hebrews 5:9. "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;" You come to the fruit of self-control by discipline. Ask the Lord to give you discipline by the Holy Spirit.
Psalms 50 tells us about who God calls the wicked. It's not the rotten slimy sinner, but those who know the truth and ignore it. Psalm 50:16-17 "But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee." The harlot church says "just confess it." How many outside the church are confessing and speaking of God's covenant? They hate instruction - discipline. (v.18) "When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers." He is saying you love to have fellowship with those who are not walking the narrow way. You have no separation. The thief here is a spiritual thief, the one who tries to find the way to heaven by another way, rather than coming through the door, which is Jesus. John 10:1 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber."
What's our part. How does this important fruit become a part of our lives. How do we work with Him. Hosea 14:8a "Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols?" Ephraim and Israel are the people of God. That's Galatians 6; Galatians 4; and Hebrews 12. Hosea 14:8b "idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found." Do you no longer have anything to do with idols. "From me is thy fruit found." That's Ephesians 2:10! "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." We are His workmanship, we have no room to boast, but in Christ. If you are bearing His fruit, He will prune you to bear more fruit.
1 Corinthians 1:29-31 "That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord." John 6:28-29 "Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." You can be under a curse, with demons hanging off you like bats, because the hedge is down from your life, and they are eating you lunch and dinner too; far from God, just one step from hell; yet God says if you will in that condition, turn back to me with a whole heart, I'll restore you. Deuteronomy 30:1-3,6 "And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee, And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee . . . And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live." Are you looking to Jesus and casting aside every sin and the weight that has so easily beset you. Enough of spiritual passivity and laziness, and putting your trust in anything else except the blood of Jesus, and thinking you can make it the easy way. Let's rise up to stand like men against the powers of hell, and take the land that God has promised us.
Phil.1:6 "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:" Jesus, is the author and finisher of your faith. He is the one. He is the one who washed you, saved you, baptized you in the Holy Spirit. Philippians 2:12-13 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." It's all Him, all His work, showing you your failures and sin habits so that you can surrender them to Him, so He can prune you. We are helpless. How much stronger are demon powers than we are? 7 times. Then why do we try to face them in the power of our flesh? It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit working in you. It's still "by my spirit saith the Lord" (Zechariah 4:6). God has to give you the victory and do the work in you, but He is only doing it, if you have a prayer life. That is the key to His working in your life. Prayer, prayer, prayer, and surrender, surrender, surrender. He is working in you to do His will and good pleasure. It isn't by methods and steps, but our going to the Father, and telling Him we can't do it, and that we need Him to do in us what we cannot hope to do for ourselves, that we are dependent upon Him to do the work in us, and that we need His blessing and we will hold onto Him like Jacob of old until He blessed us, by turning us away from our evil wicked ways (Acts 3:26).
Then as soon as God changes one area in your life, the Holy Spirit will come along and show us another area He wants to work on. You say, "how long will this go on in my life?" Until Jesus comes. Philippians 3:13-14 "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Paul had an aim. He didn't walk in passivity, and guilt and self condemnation. He had a goal and knew how to obtain it. We have so many Christians who want to commit spiritual hare-kari. They will say, "I feel like giving up." Then if you say, you mean you want to go to Hell! They will reply, "no, no!" Well make up your mind, either you want to give up or you don't. It's not a show or a pick-nick or a game; but an endurance, a pressing through to righteousness, being faithful and not giving up no matter what the cost. If only we would truly fall in love with Jesus. We will do anything for the one we are in love with. No price would be too great to pay. We need to be brought back to our first love, to the joy of our salvation. We need to put God's Word first, and not last. If your life is full of the things of this world, then don't wonder why you don't know anything of God's presence in your life. May God give us a hatred for this world, and our flesh, and all evil, and give us a love of Him and the things of God. god's people today act as if the things God said wasn't really so, that He didn't really mean what it said, as if it was all some kind of joke, and this isn't really the last days, and He isn't' really coming soon.
Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" It's all God. Grace. His power, His live, His anointing, His dominion, His authority. We are His workmanship. Revelation 21:2 "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." Did Jesus say the kingdom of Heaven is within us. (v.3) "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." Emmanuel. Do you believe it. His name is Emmanuel. In song service you either sing the biggest lies, or sing the greatest truths. (v.5) "And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful." Is God making all things new in your life.
Romans 13:12 "The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light." That's Jesus. (v.13) "Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying." That's walking in self-control. (v.14) "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." Your flesh is your enemy. How do you do this? 1 Peter 2:1 "Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings," Put it aside. That's what Romans 13 said. How do you do it? By the Spirit. Who gives you the Spirit. How do you get it? By coming to Jesus and asking for it. (v.4a) "To whom coming, as unto a living stone." You never stop coming to Jesus. You seek Him and come to Jesus until He comes for you. Most go to church as an exercise, as a routing, as going through the motions. There is no reality. (v.2) "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:" In respect to salvation. How do you grow? By keep coming to Him. (v.4) "To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious," When you come to Him, He being to make all things new in your life. (v.5) "Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ." You are being built up...
Ezekiel 36:21 "But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went." We are the Israel of God. (v.22-24) "Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land." Nations are the enemy of God. God has always had a prepared place for His people, in His presence, a place where He would dwell with His people. (v.25) "Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you." Are you asking God to separate you from all the idols in your heart? When you hear the Word, the milk, do you run to Jesus and ask Him to perform His Word in you, and sprinkle clean water on you, and separate you from your idols. One reason and purpose for learning the Word, is so that when you pray, you can remind God of His Word. HE watches over His Word to perform it, not your words. (v.26-29) "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you." Let's ask God to save us from our uncleanness. (v.30-34) "And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel. Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by." We are the desolate land.
Romans 8:32-39 tells us how to do it. (v.32) "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" The Charismatics bought a lie. They make this to mean that God will give them all the things of this world, this life. God told us that He is not talking about things on this world. Colossians 3:1-3 "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." The things we are too seek are heavenly things from Him. Romans 8:33-35 "Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" Even if all these things are in our lives, He still loves us. How do we conquer? Through Him. (v.36-39) "As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." There is no devil, and no pit too deep for you to overcome. Nothing can stop you. He will make your feet like hinds feet, and you'll be able to walk over any mountain.
Self-control. Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Temperance is self-control. There is no law against these things. The law is for the godless and sinner, to bring them to the judgment of God. Here is who belongs to Jesus. (v.24) "And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts." If you walk in the passions and desires of the flesh, then you are not walking with Jesus, but you belong to Satan. Are you, by the Spirit of God, putting to death you flesh and it's lusts. Do you believe that He will freely give you all things pertaining to life and godliness. Have you made up your mind to belong to Jesus, lock, stock and barrel and be completely His. Do you believe there is no pit deep enough to hold you back from the love of God?
