Genesis 14:17-18 “And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.” The kings dale where they met is in
Jerusalem in the area of the Kidron Valley. In Genesis 22 Abraham took Isaac to the Mountains of Moriah and offered his son.
The Jebusites built the stronghold of
Zion. David went through a watershaft and took the city of Zion and moved his headquarters from Hebron to Zion. Jerusalem was called Mt. Zion in the time of David. After his death, Solomon built the temple of God, know as Solomon’s Temple, some 3000 years ago and it lasted for some 410 years until King Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians came and destroyed it. After the Babylonian captivity in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah a remnant returned and rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem and another Temple was built, which lasted some 420 years until it was destroyed by the Romans in 70AD. Since then the Jewish people have been without a Temple. They have Synagogues, which are houses of worship to gather on the Sabbath day to hear the reading of the Torah and pray, but the Temple could only be in one place, Jerusalem. Since Matthew 24:2 was fulfilled by Roman soldiers in 70AD when the Temple was burnt down, there has been no temple. The timbers were burnt and the gold ran down the stones and they were thrown down by the soldiers.
Since then the city of
Jerusalem has changed hands many times, the Byzantines, the Muslims, the Crusaders, the Ottomon Turkish Empire. From about 1517 when the Ottomons took the city they rebuilt the walls of the city that can be seen today. They ruled Jerusalem until 1917 until General Edmund Allenby flying over told them to surrender or else. They saw his name, and misunderstood, reading his name as Allah Neby. Allah is god to them and Neby means a prophet and so they thought he was a prophet of God and didn’t know what the scout planes were and so surrendered the city to him. At that point it remained divided. The West part was Jewish and the East side was the Arab Christians and mostly Muslim.
In June of 1967 there was what is know as the 6 day war which broke out in the Golan Heights, in the
West Bank. On the 3rd day of the war the Israeli Defense Forces coming from the Mount of Olives, viewed the temple Mount with binoculars, then went through the Lion’s Gate into the old city and captured it. The fence that divided the city went down through the center of the city and a wall, in between which was an area called no-mans land. That fence and wall were removed and Jerusalem was united as the capitol of Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem is not so big but is a great controversy not only because it is considered Holy by three religions, Christians, Jews and Muslims. It is Holy to the Christians because according to scripture Jesus came there and was crucified, died, was buried and rose again, ascended into heaven and it is there He is to return according to Acts 1:19 and Zechariah 14. To the Jews it is holy because it dates back to the time of King David and the Holy Temples were there and there Abraham offered Isaac. It is sacred to Islam even though there is no mention of it in their Koran, their tradition says Mohammad took a night journey on his horse and there met Elijah and Jesus and Moses there and then at the place of the Mosque called the Dome of the Rock is the place where he ascended into heaven. They claim there in a certain area of that temple is a hoof print of Mohammed’s horse, and a handprint of Elijah and an urn with beard hears of the prophet Mohammed.
The battle for the city of
Jerusalem is not a natural battle but a spiritual one. All end-time prophetic scriptures center around Jerusalem, Israeland the Jewish people. The church is given certain promises in the bible, Matthew 24:14 “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Acts 2:17 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:” quoting from Joel 2:28. These promises are for the church whether they are Jew or Gentile. These promises are part of the new covenant. There are also certain promises given in the Bible for Jerusalem, Israeland the Jewish people. To rightly divide the Word we cannot take a promise exclusively for the Jewish people and apply them to the church although there are spiritual applications because the Gentiles were grafted into the covenant, Romans 11:19-23. “Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.”
So in some things where the Lord spoke of
Jerusalem or it has to do with them in the natural and not us directly. When the plain obvious interpretation is that which is spoken in the natural concerning the Hebrew people or Israel Jerusalem, that is the primary meaning and application as the prophecy concerning the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple and the Lord regathering His chosen people to that land. These were prophecies that had to do with them and are fulfilled in the natural, concerning natural Jerusalem and the Jewish people and do not speak of the church.
So in looking at the prophecies of Ezekiel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Micah, Malachi and knowing that they are important, then the work of Satan will be to prove that they are not true because he fights all truth. How can he prove the Word is not true? If you cannot prove it in the hearts of men, then you try to disprove that they are literal. And so Satan has always tried to destroy the nation of
Israel, the Hebrew people and the city of Jerusalem. Those three things he has fought throughout their history. Jerusalem is the place of prime importance in prophecy. Deuteronomy 12:5, 11, 21 “5 But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come:… 11 Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:… 21 If the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to put his name there be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy herd and of thy flock, which the LORD hath given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt eat in thy gates whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.” It is the place God said He would put His Name there and a place His people would come and make offerings to Him. It is also the place where the New Covenant was established. It is Satan’s ultimate goal to destroy the city of Jerusalem. So we are told the two Beasts, not physical beasts but men that are as wild beasts in Revelation 13 and Daniel 9:27 called the anti-christ and false prophet will try to destroy Jerusalem. “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”
A Peace treaty will be signed for 7 years. After 42 months it will be broken. Revelation 13:1-2 “And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.” Here we see a man that is called Anti-Christ, a term which was coined by John in 1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; and 2 John 7. This individual will become possessed and controlled by Satan and is the first beast in Revelation 13. Then comes a false prophet in Revelation 16:13. “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.” We know that in Revelation, Jesus is the Lamb slain from the foundation of the World. Revelation 13:11 “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.” Here we see a lamb which though representing Christianity, is not a pure Christianity but a false representation. Horns always represent authority. According to Daniel 7 & 8 they can represent a king, a kingdom, or authority. So a spiritual leader representing false Christianity is the lamb with 2 horns. He will be able to pull two strong religions together, most likely apostate Christianity with the Pope at the center and Islam. He will pool them together as a spiritual leader and direct the focus of attention to the worship of the first Beast or antichrist. It will be Satan’s final attempt to destroy.
Israel, Jerusalem and the Jewish people.
Why would God permit this to happen and what seems like another holocaust to happen for then will more of the Jewish people die than anytime in history for 2/3rds of the Jewish people will die during this time. Why? Because the people for the most part are in unbelief. The Muslims believe in Allah and use the Koran as their holy book, but many of the Jews are agnostic and don’t believe in any God. God is going to give them an opportunity to know their Messiah, Jesus. Satan will possess and control a man who will lead the world into a great time of tribulation for 42 months, but in the end, all Israel will be saved (Romans 11:26). This is the end of the story, as also foretold by Zechariah 13:6. “And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.” They will look at his hands and he will tell them. Zechariah 13:1 “In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of
.” The bottom line is God’s love and His promises and covenant with the Hebrew people and when He is finished dealing with the Gentiles and the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled, He will once again, one last time, turn to His chosen people to offer a remnant of them His salvation. Is it not true that even most Christians do not come to a place of a close relationship with Christ and God the Father unless they are forced into a position of calling out to Him in a time of trouble? The antichrist will be against Christ but will be a counterfeit Christ. Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness
Jesus ministered in
for 42 months before He was crucified, buried and raised from the dead. The antichrist will be given 42 months – Revelation 13:5. “And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.” Here is a man called the son of perdition, who will have a deadly wound that is healed and at that time he becomes possessed by a high demon power that gives him the power and ability to rule the nations and control Israel - Revelation 13:3, 12. “And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast… And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.” Israel
Then after that Jesus will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4-8) and the mountain will split and water will run into the sea and the scriptures says the waters will bring healing to the land. “4-5 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee. 8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from
.” Between now and the end of time and Revelation 20:4, there will be a time of trouble and today we are seeing the birth pains (Matthew 24:8). “All these are the beginning of sorrows.” Sorrows in the Greek means birth pains. The birth pain process is now beginning now in the world when you look at what is happening in the Middle East, and Europe and Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be Africa, the plagues and viruses, droughts and the wars, the troubles of every kind are signs and evidences that we are living in the time of the end. We must never loose hope in the reality that the garden tomb in Jerusalem near the Damascus Gate is empty. A body once lay there wrapped in 100 pounds of spices; with a large stone in front of the door with a Roman seal on it is empty. We must not loose sight of the central fact of the Gospel, which is the center of our faith and hope of eternal life. If the tomb were not empty we would be without hope of eternal life, and Paul said, “of all men most miserable.” But Jesus has risen from the dead and the book of Revelation above all is a picture of the risen and glorified Christ, sitting upon the throne of the universe, with all power and authority, ruling all things and in total control, though it doesn’t look like it down here on earth from the natural viewpoint. Jesus is the Lord of glory…
